Jazynka- is Polish/Lithuanian stew that my grandmother used to make me when I was a child. Basically it is the mashed potatoes type of food, only some more ingredients are added, and we make it with some chunks, not totally mashed.
Here is the nature morte of the vegetables used in the recipe:
The recipe is really simple, you’ll need
3-4 potatoes peeled and cut in small cubes
2 carrots peeled , halved and cut into chunks
1cup of frozen peas
1/2 tbsp of salt
ground black pepper
1/4 tbsp tumeric powder
Boil about 1 litre of water in pot. Put the carrots and the peas into boiling water, reduce the heat and boil for some 7 min, then add the potaoes. Cover the pot and simmer over low heat for some more 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper and the tumeric powder. When the vegetables are ready pour off the remaining water, add the butter and slightly squash the vegetables, but not completely so that the small chunks are left. Add some greens if you have some.
Here what you get
I eat jazynka with kefir, which is also a drink from my childhooh.
It’s an easy made meal, which children will love to. You can eat it alone, or use it as garnish to meat or fish.
